Thought this might be my last day

Thought this might be my last day

Introduction

I had only one participant for the whole day.  We talked for hours and walked several kilometers.  This is something I did not expect before starting this project, that someone would spend so much time with me.  But there have been several storytellers who walked more than a block with me and shared more than a story.  They shared their time, their city and a little peek into their lives.

At this point, I am one kilometer from the end of Insurgentes.  This is hard for me to believe.  It’s been a little over a month since I began this journey.  As of today there are 59 stories, that means 59 people willing to take time out of their day to walk with me and tell me a story.  Together, we have walked 28 kilometers, around 17 miles, along a busy avenue through the heart of the city.  They have shared a love for their city and country,  and a generosity of heart and spirit that has warmed me to my core.

I have really enjoyed reading all of your stories. I don’t know if you remember me but I met you in the Episodios cafe in Roma and you told me all about your project before you started and now you are almost done. Exciting and sad because I won’t get to ready your stories everyday. So where is your ending point…Indios Verdes?

Thank you! I’m excited and sad to be almost done. Yes, the end is Indios Verdes and I am very close.
I’m glad you have enjoyed the stories, and also sad to be so near the end…

Hi Laura, it’s great to see that you’re almost there, although like Josie Majari I’ll be sorry not to be able to continue reading new stories from Insurgentes. This northern section seems to have gone much more quickly. You must be very relieved after the swine flu and earthquakes and rainstorms and occasional lapses of motivation. It’s given us a great insight into the lives of ordinary people in one of the biggest cities on earth. Stories can help us to share knowledge and understanding and I hope your determined efforts go some way to building better understanding between the people of the US and Mexico. Maybe you’ll have a few “bonus” stories to add from other parts of Mexico over the next few weeks? - Best wishes, Andrew
